I-35W bridge collapse in Minneapolis
If you haven't heard already, the bridge over the Mississippi river in Minneapolis has collapsed during evening rush hour traffic. Both sides. Gone. For those unfamiliar with the Twin Cities, this is a major artery. My brother just called to make sure I wasn't in the area, and I also called my mom to let her know we are ok. She hadn't heard about it yet.
To my local friends and acquaintances, please drop me an email or post a comment here to let me know you're ok if I haven't already talked to you. Cellular phone activity is off the charts here, and it's getting difficult to make calls. They are requesting that we limit unnecessary cell phone usage.
UPDATE: Lots of people checking in and updating the status of others on this MNSpeak thread.
UPDATE #2: Local video from MN Stories. And again, look at that MNSpeak thread for an amazing snapshot of how tight the Twin Cities blogging community is.

I'm still here and planning on bingo tonight!
Rich is safe too.
I'm still coming too! I saw your post on mnspeak. So glad you're both ok.
Ang D. from Overheard in Mpls is ok.
Alie from Kitty Kat Lounge is ok.
Well, it might be easier to check the MNSpeak thread. Lots of people checking in there and checking up on others.
I'm alive...Depending on traffic, I'm still planning on coming.
Good to hear from you, Lesley.
Oh, and Hedy's out of the country for those who haven't checked her blog or don't have access anymore. She's fine. Amber's fine, too!
I'm okay.
Man, I saw the news 10 minutes ago. Glad you're all okay!
Acquaintance still alive here.
I drove on that damn thing this afternoon, but I'm ok. Glad to hear you all are as well. Also, I can see part of it from my balcony. I tried to take pictres, but without success. Need major zoomage.
Erica, glad you're ok. Heard from several people who had just passed over the bridge or narrowly avoided it.
Loops, oddly enough I first saw about it on MySpace about 20 minutes after it happened. Checked my messages, and a local band had posted a bulletin about it.
Dan, glad you're ok, man.
AC, thanks for checking in. Fucking crazy. Tonight is kind of a blur, but I was talking with someone at musical bingo, and one of there friends lives in an apartment building maybe a few hundred feet from that bridge. They were chilling out on the rooftop patio and saw the whole damn thing unfold right in front of their eyes.
Hans and I are safe! Glad to hear you are too!
Take care,
Ange
So glad, Ange! Say hello to him, by the way. :-)
Wow, you know I'm dazed when I spell "their" as "there."
Hi Jeremy,
I'm alwright. Amber and I were in the sack as usual.
King Shocka Khan
Glad you are ok Jeremy. I thought of you immediately when I heard about this. Very awful.
Oh, Shocka, you're incorrigible! :-)
Thanks, Janda. I hope the people directly affected by this find some encouragement in the fact that so many people from all over the country are concerned for them.
